Barbera d'Alba DOC Superiore
The Barbera grape variety has a pentagonal leaf and medium-sized bunches, with thin, intensely dark blue berries and very juicy pulp. It is cultivated at an altitude of around 300 m above sea level, which makes it rich in polyphenols.
Barbera Superiore differs from Barbera in that it has a higher alcohol content and must be aged for at least one year before consumption.
Its vinification involves leaving the skins to macerate in the must for 8/10 days with 2/3 daily punch-downs. After malolactic fermentation, it ages in wood for 8 to 12 months.
The wine should be served at around 16/18 °C and pairs well with savory dishes, especially meat-based ones. However, it is also excellent with a platter of cured meats and cheeses.
